Tender Altered

I'm not in love. The tiger
is napping, I can see Spring
through the thin parts
of its ear. Flicking, dreaming.
It makes me yawn
to see the dragonflies return
remember the high drone
of August. I don't see you
in the hammock of summer, waving,
one dry book half held on a lazy lap.
But that's the thing about life
out of the mangroves -
everything is contrived.
The tulips were nice but at night,
even with the window open,
I'm not thinking of you.
